Volkswagen has revealed two new GTX models to join its line-up of sporty electric cars.

The ID3 GTX and ID7 GTX Tourer are both set to launch later this year.

GTX was introduced in 2021, on the ID4, as VW's 'GTI' equivalent for EVs. Bringing more power and more aggressive styling, the sporty trim was later extended to ID5.

The ID3 GTX will have 286PS, while a Performance version will also be offered with 326PS. Both will be rear-wheel-drive and powered by a new 79kWh battery.

A 373-mile range is anticipated for the new ID3 GTX, while the car will have a 0-62mph acceleration time of around six seconds.

Charging power is increased to 175kW, enabling a 10%-80% charge in 26 minutes.

The ID3 GTX stands out with a sportier bumper design, 20-inch wheels and sports seats.Revised suspension and steering settings are said to deliver a more engaging drive.

It follows the announcement of the Cupra Born VZ.

The ID7 GTX Tourer is fitted with a dual-motor 340PS powertrain that utilises an 86kWh battery.

It's expected to have a range close to 400 miles and rapid charging capability of 200kW.

The car was teased earlier this year, as the ID X Performance Concept.

VW has given the ID7 GTX a similar cosmetic makeover, adding deeper bumpers and larger alloy wheels. There's also changes underneath to improve driveability.

Pricing and final specifications are yet to be confirmed for the new GTX variants. They will go on sale alongside a new ID Buzz GTX.
