Peugeot has unveiled a new concept car, that showcases a potential future electric saloon from the brand.

The Inception debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show 2023 and is based on the forthcoming Stellantis STLA Large platform. The underpinnings will be used to support a variety of larger cars across the group as Stellantis broadens its line-up of electric models.

Using a 100kWh battery, the Inception promises a range of 497 miles. High-speed charging capability means 93 miles of range can be added in five minutes. The Inception is also capable of wireless induction charging.

Two electric motors power the car, delivering almost 680PS, enabling it to accelerate from zero to 62mph in less than three seconds.

The Inception showcases a next-generation of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit and uses a square steering wheel. Known as the Hypersquare control system, the device does away with the conventional steering wheel in favour of digital electric controls and steer-by-wire technology.

The next generation i-Cockpit also includes the Stellantis STLA SmartCockpit technology platform and STLA AutoDrive, enabling Level 4 autonomous driving. When driving is delegated, Hypersquare retracts and a large panoramic infotainment screen slides out from the floor.

Peugeot says the simpler and more refined design language seen on the Inception will be introduced on future models from 2025. At the front, the concept features an all-new light signature incorporating Peugeot’s distinctive claw design, which is merged with the front grille that also houses the sensors. This is made up of a single piece of glass with the logo in the centre, magnified by the 3D luminescent effect.  

A Tech Bar runs horizontally through the door layer. This flush screen can display messages, such as the battery charge level, to the outside of the car when the driver approaches it.
