Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has showcased the seven-seat ID Buzz LWB, which is expected to launch before the end of the year.

The new, longer model has three rows of seats, an upgraded electric motor with more power and a larger battery.

The ID Buzz LWB is 250mm longer than the regular model, providing almost 2.5 cubic metres of interior storage space.

The ID Buzz LWB will be powered by VW's new 286PS electric motor, which gives a 0-62mph acceleration time of less than 8.0 seconds. It will be joined by a GTX variant, with a twin-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain that develops 339PS.

A new 85kWh battery will be offered, alongside the existing 77kWh unit. VW has not revealed the range figures for the new model yet, but has confirmed a new heat pump will be used that boosts efficiencies in colder climates.

Other new features of the large electric VW Bus include a head-up display, an upgraded next-generation infotainment system, and remote parking via smartphone. Meanwhile, a newly designed high-tech panoramic sunroof with smart glass brings back memories of the legendary Samba Bus of the 50s.

The VW ID Buzz will be among the models available to test drive at Company Car in Action, the UK's biggest fleet test drive event, which takes place at Millbrook Proving Ground on June 14-15.
