Vauxhall has added a new Surround Rear Vision camera system for the Combo Cargo, improving visibility to the rear and in the passenger side blind spot.

The manufacturer says the technology is particularly useful in preventing potential accidents with cyclists and pedestrians when turning left.

It combines two cameras that provide a range of views to the rear and to the side via a five-inch screen mounted where the rear-view mirror would usually live.

The first camera is mounted above the rear doors, overlooking the area behind the vehicle. During normal driving it displays a similar view to a rear-view mirror, giving visibility of more than 30 meters behind the van.

When reversing or parking the same camera can provide a ‘close-up’ view with guidance lines.

The second camera is located under the passenger-side mirror of the Combo Cargo and shows the passenger view towards the rear. By switching to the display, via the touchscreen, the driver can see whether cyclists or pedestrians are in what would normally be the blind spot.

The new feature is part of the Parking Pack, which also consists of front and rear parking distance sensors, power-folding door mirrors, front fog lights and ultrasonic side sensors. The parking pack, including the Surround Rear Vision camera, is available from £666.67 +VAT.
