Daf has launched the XB, an all-new line-up of distribution vehicles in the 7.5-tonne to 19-tonne weight class.

The XB – including the XBC construction truck – completes Daf’s refresh of its product range and joins the new generation XD, XF, XG and XG+ trucks.

It will enter production in the fourth quarter of 2023, offering a tailor-made solution for all urban and regional applications.

A range of wheelbases (up to 6.9 metres) and chassis lengths, allow more than nine-metre superstructures. Low kerb weights result in highest payloads for optimal return per kilometre. In addition, the chassis of the XB series features a new grid pattern for bodybuilder-friendliness. New are pre-defined chassis lay-outs with repositioned fuel tanks, exhaust systems, batteries and air tanks, specifically meant for road sweepers and tippers.

The new Daf XB Electric will be available in 12-tonne, 16-tonne and 19 tonnes versions. It has a power output of 120kW (161hp) and 950Nm or 190kW (255hp) and 1,850Nm, depending of the specification.

Battery packs with a gross energy content of 141kWh up to 282kWh, are available. A maximum range of 217 miles is possible, according to Daf.

The new Daf XB is also available with 4.5-litre four-cylinder PACCAR PX-5 and 6.7-litre six-cylinder PACCAR PX-7 diesel engines, with outputs from 124kW (170hp) to 227kW (310hp). 

These are paired with an eight-speed, fully automatic PowerLine transmission. Six- and nine-speed manual transmissions are also available for the DAF XB series, while fully automatic Allison gearboxes can be ordered for special applications.

Alongside the XB series for on-road applications, Daf is also introducing the XBC series, for tougher applications such as in the construction segment. The XBC has a 19-tonne chassis and features a high ground clearance of 255 millimetres, a large approach angle of 25 degrees, a steel front radiator plate to protect the engine bay and a sturdy lava-grey steel bumper.
