Toyota has reintroduced the Prius to the UK market as an all-new model with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The third-generation Prius promises greater fuel economy, emissions efficiency and EV driving capability.

Two versions are offered – Design and Excel – powered by a 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid system that delivers 223PS.

Up to 53 miles of EV driving range is possible from the car’s 13.6kWh battery. For longer trips, or when charging is not practical, the plug-in hybrid system has a combined CO2 emissions rating of 12g/km – the lowest yet for a Prius.

The new Prius is based on Toyota's latest TNGA platform, which facilitates a more dynamic driving experience along with greater comfort.

Pricing starts at £37,315. The Design model includes 17-inch alloy wheels, smart entry, rear privacy glass, the Toyota Smart Connect+ multimedia system with sat-nav, parking sensors and dual-zone air conditioning. The latest generation Toyota Safety Sense active safety and driver assistance systems are also provided as standard.

The Excel (£39,955) rides on 19-inch wheels and comes with eight-way power adjustable front seats with memory setting and integrated heating and ventilation. A digital rear-view mirror and power back door are also included in the specification.

Customer ordering will commence in March with the first vehicles scheduled to arrive from July.
