The Energy Saving Trust has announced the 28 fleets, organisations and suppliers shortlisted for the Fleet Hero Awards 2017 .

Now in its 12th year, the awards showcase organisations, suppliers and manufacturers that have successfully reduced fuel bills and lowered their emissions and carbon footprint through better transport policies and improved fleet efficiency.

The winners will be announced on the evening of November 9 at the Museum of London Docklands where attendees will have the opportunity to network with government representatives, fleet decision makers, vehicle manufacturers and suppliers. 

During the afternoon delegates will also have the opportunity to attend the Fleet Hero Conference which brings together expert speakers from the Department for Transport, Emissions Analytics, Highways England, Nottingham City Council, University of Leeds and Z-Tech Control Systems to discuss the joint challenges of tackling air quality and carbon emissions.

Edmund King, president of the Automobile Association, will provide the keynote speech.

Energy Saving Trust’s chief executive Philip Sellwood (pictured) said: “This year’s Fleet Hero Awards is our 12th celebration of sustainable fleet management and low emission transport and it remains a great opportunity to meet with leaders in the transport and fleet management industry.

“The standard of applications this year is higher than ever, with our shortlist highlighting the extent to which fleets all around the country have adopted ultra-low emission vehicles, cutting vehicle emissions with forward-looking transport policies and fleet efficiency.

“This year we have included an ultra-low emission infrastructure award recognising fleet managers and transport planners who are showcasing best practice when planning and installing charging equipment for plug-in vehicles – a vital step to ensuring efficient and reliable operation as these vehicles become more widely available.”

The awards will again be hosted by Robert Llewellyn who is perhaps best known for his role as Kryten in BBC comedy Red Dwarf and as co-presenter of Channel 4’s Scrapheap Challenge.

Llewellyn said: “I’m very excited to host the Fleet Hero Awards again this year. Last year I was really impressed by the innovative measures the UK’s talented fleet managers and suppliers are taking to improve the efficiency of their fleets and reduce emissions.

“I’ve been driving electric cars for seven years now and I love them! I’ve really noticed in the last couple of years how ultra-low emission vehicles have captured the attention of consumers and fleets who see the benefits they can bring.

"By celebrating Fleet Heroes, we are recognising best practice across the country and helping to inspire others to follow and help tackle the carbon reduction and air quality challenges we face.”
