8 Renault Scenic E-Tech

Renault is now accepting orders for the all-new electric Scenic E-Tech, which will arrive in the spring.

The new Scenic E-Tech shares its underpinnings with the Megane E-Tech and is available with two powertrain options.

Prices for the new model start at £37,495.

It promises a spacious interior, agile handling and a Google-powered infotainment system.

The Comfort Range version uses a 170PS motor and a 60kWh battery pack, giving a range of 260 miles.

In Long Range guise, the Scenic E-Tech features an 87kWh battery, paired with a 220PS motor. It gives a range of 379 miles and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds.

Charging at up o 22kW (AC) and 150kW (DC) is possible. A 0-80% charge can be completed in 37 minutes at a rapid charger, while a full charge takes 13 hours using a standard domestic wallbox.

Three trim grades are offered: Techno, Esprit Alpine and Iconic.

Techno comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, front and rear full LED lights, electric flush door handles, electric folding door mirrors climate control, rear-view camera, front and rear park assist, heated front seats and steering wheel, paddle shifters for regenerative braking, automatic wipers and electric boot opening.

Advanced driver assistance systems include intelligent adaptive cruise control, traffic and speed sign recognition, driver attention alert, distance warning alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centring, active emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist detection and blind spot warning.

The Esprit Alpine trim adds 20-inch wheels, sports seats with blue stitching, satin grey detailing, blue carpet, blue detailing in storage compartments, and blue door panel inserts.

Range-topping Iconic comes with an electric driver’s seat with massage function, Harman Kardon sound system, soft fabric dashboard with real wood inserts, light fabric seats made from recycled materials, Solarbay opacifying panoramic sunroof, hands-free parking, 360-degree camera, and a smart rear-view mirror.

The Scenic E-Tech doesn't bear a drastic resemblance to its Megane stablemate, with a more angular design and distinctive front-end treatment.

Aerodynamic efficiency is key to the design. At the front, those air curtains under the daytime running lights optimise the air flow around the vehicle, while the sculpted rear dispels drag with a character-defining line on either side of the bumper.

The interior features a 12-inch central infotainment screen and a large digital instrument cluster. The system operates using a Google-based platform and is centred around connectivity.

Passenger space is generous and benefits from the car's flat floor. There are numerous storage compartments and cupholders, as well as wireless phone charging capability.

Renault Scenic SolarBay roof

A glass roof floods the cabin with light and can be either fully or partially opacified in segments. The Solarbay roof minimises the greenhouse effect in warm weather and opacifies automatically on exiting the car. When you return, it automatically reverts to its previous setting.

The boot offers 545 litres of space, which is about the same as a VW ID 4.
