Renault will give a world debut to its Scenic E-Tech electric – its second C-segment battery electric vehicle – at the IAA Mobility Show on September 4.

The car, which will be a rival to models such as the Volkswagen ID4, was unveiled in concept form as the Scenic Vision at last year’s ChangeNow Summit in Paris.

Renault says it is the brand’s first production car to embody its new sustainable development strategy on the environment, safety and inclusion.

Made in the Douai ElectriCity factory, a fleet of pre-production cars will be driven on public roads this summer by Renault engineers.

Scenic E-Tech will be a five-seater and will use the all-electric CMF-EV platform which made its debut in the Megane E-Tech.

Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors, are to launch 35 new EV models by 2030 as part of their future roadmap.

The manufacturers, which currently use the common platforms across 60% of their models, announced their cooperation business model in 2020 to support competitiveness and profitability.

The alliance has now defined a common 2030 roadmap on pure EV and intelligent and connected mobiity.

Ninety per cent of the 35 models will be based on five common EV platforms, covering most markets, in all major regions.

  • CMF-AEV is the base for the new Dacia Spring
  • KEI-EV (mini vehicle) platform family for ultra-compact EVs
  • LCV-EV Family platform for professional customers, as the base for the Renault Kangoo and Nissan Town Star
  • CMF-EV is the base for the Nissan Ariya EV crossover and Renault Megane E-Tech Electric
  • CMF-BEV, compact electric platform, to be launched in 2024. It provides up to 400km range and will be the base for 250,000 vehicles a year under the Renault, Alpine and Nissan brands.
