Skoda has revealed pricing and specification for the second-generation Kodiaq, which will be available with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engine for the first time, with an electric-only range of 62 miles.

With order books opening from Wednesday (April 10), the Kodiaq will be available from £36,645, and is bigger than its predecessor, offering more space inside for passengers and luggage.

The car has a boxier and more imposing design, but the new body is also said to improve aerodynamics.

Five and seven seat configurations will be offered, as before, but with more boot space. In the five-seater version, luggage space has grown by 75 litres to 910 litres without folding the rear seats down.

The seven-seater now holds 340 litres behind the third row of seats, 70 more than before. The PHEV has a 745-litre boot capacity.

A new interior architecture, shared with the upcoming Skoda Superb, utilises a new 10-inch central infotainment touchscreen.

Skoda has elected to retain a conventional array of controls beneath the screen for climate and audio functions. A 13-inch display, along with a 14-speaker Canton surround sound system, will be optionally available.

A permanent internet connection allows for convenient “over the air” updates, online-based route planning and numerous mobile online services from Skoda Connect.

Special features for the all-new Kodiaq iV plug-in hybrid, which is due to be released at a later date, include Remote Charging as well as Remote Air Conditioning, Departure Planner and Plug and Charge.

It is powered by a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, paired with an electric motor. A 25.7kWh battery provides the zero-emission capability and is capable of charging at 11kW (AC) and 50kW (DC).

As well as the PHEV powertrain, which has a total power output of 204PS, the engine line-up includes two petrol and two diesel engines ranging from 150PS to 193PS.

The entry-level 1.5 TSi petrol engine is the debut of mild-hybrid technology in the Kodiaq line-up, while the higher output 2.0 TSI 204PS engine comes with all-wheel drive as standard.

Safety equipment will include second-generation full LED Matrix headlights and more advanced assistance systems.

Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, said: "Our all-new flagship SUV has everything it needs to be a worthy successor in the Skoda Kodiaq line.

"The new Kodiaq takes the Skoda features our customers appreciate to the next level: more space, more features, and more efficiency.

"With innovations like the well-received Smart Dials and sleek interior materials, alongside elements from our modern solid design language and updated safety and assistance systems, the next-generation Kodiaq makes everyday exploring even more rewarding.

"We have also broadened our range of highly efficient powertrains, introducing a plug-in hybrid with an electric range of over 100 km, furthering our commitment to sustainable mobility.

"Since its 2016 launch, the Kodiaq has played a crucial role in Skoda's growth, consistently striking a chord with our customers. The new Kodiaq is perfectly placed to continue this successful legacy."
