Volkswagen has updated the Touareg SUV for 2024, bringing a refreshed look, updated technology and revised powertrains.

Prices for the new model start from £67,640 and there are two plug-in hybrid options.

Styling changes at the front and rear incorporate VW's signature light bar, while also giving the car a more aggressive look. 

On the inside, the new Touareg is now equipped with VW's Innovision Cockpit as standard. The setup provides a digital instrument cluster display and a 15-inch central infotainment touchscreen,

Changes to the car's suspension are said to improve comfort and agility. Base models ride on coil springs, while higher-grade versions are equipped with air suspension.

A number of technological developments feature on the new Touareg. Among these are new HD Matrix LED headlights, which utlise 19,210 micro-LEDs that can be individually controlled to provide optimum light output.

The facelifted Touareg is also the first VW model to be sold in the UK with an illuminated VW badge.

There are three variants: Elegance, Black Edition and R.

The Elegance comes with 20-inch wheels, heated leather seats, keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof and matrix LED headlights.

Black edition adds 21-inch black wheels, black exterior trim pieces (instead of chrome), memory seats, air suspension and  360-degree camera system.

The R includes 22-inch wheels and sportier styling. 

VW offers the Touareg with a selection of 3.0-litre V6 powertrains. There are two diesel models (231 and 286PS) and a 340PS petrol, alongside two plug-in hybrids.

Previously, only the range-topping Touareg R was powered by a plug-in hybrid. It is now be joined by a lower-powered variant. Both use a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 and a 17.9kWh battery. The Touareg eHybrid produces 381PS, while the Touareg R produces 462PS.

The Touareg eHybrid emits 51g/km of CO2, meaning it sits in the 15% benefit-in-kind tax band, as does the R. Both have a zero emission range of 31 miles (WLTP).

Prices for the eHybrid start at £68,810, while the R costs £80,370.
