Polestar has announced it will put its electric roadster concept into production in 2026 following a positive reaction to the vehicle.

The Swedish electric car company revealed the concept - named Polestar O2 - in Los Angeles in March.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, said: “With the overwhelming consumer and press response, we took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production and I am so excited to make it a reality.

“Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down.”

The hard-top convertible will be built on Polestar’s bonded aluminium platform and will feature the high-performance, 800-volt architecture already confirmed for Polestar 6.

This includes a power output up to 884PS, 900Nm torque from a dual motor powertrain, a targeted 0-62mph acceleration time of 3.2 seconds.

Further technical details and specification confirmations will be released as the production car becomes reality, leading up to the expected launch in 2026.

Polestar will reveal its second fully electric model in October, ahead of the car’s arrival in 2023.

The Polestar 3 is expected to have a range of 373 miles and will enter the premium end of the market, alongside cars like the BMW iX.

The all-wheel-drive SUV will begin production in early 2023 and will be built alongside the new Volvo XC90.
