Volkswagen has introduced a new entry-level trim grade for the electric ID5 that is more than £3,000 cheaper than the current start point to the range.

The ID5 Style can be specified with the Pro, Pro Performance and GTX powertrains, sitting beneath the existing Tech and Max grades.

Specification is reduced, so features like electrically adjustable seats, a surround view camera system, power tailgate and head-up display have been removed.

The Style trim does retain an otherwise impressive array of features, with keyless entry, a 12-inch infotainment screen, panoramic glass roof and Matrix LED headlights included.

Some features from higher-grade models can be optionally added, including a heat pump and a sound system upgrade.

Like other ID5 models, the Style is fitted with the largest battery pack from the Volkswagen line-up – a 77 kWh unit, providing a range of up to 313 miles. With a maximum recharging capacity of 135kW, the whole ID5 range has a charge time of as little as 29 minutes to 80% at a rapid charger, or at a rate of six minutes to recharge 62 miles.

Francesca McGuinn, ID family product marketing manager at Volkswagen UK, said: “The ID5 is packed with every convenience, innovation and luxury that a customer might need, with only selected items on the optional extras list. That’s why it’s so exciting that the ID5 Style has arrived, bringing with it a lower entry price for the model, but the same blend of sustainability, quality and head-turning style that mark out ID. models from their competitors.”
