8 2022 Range Rover Sport

Land Rover has showcased the all-new Range Rover Sport, following the recent launch of its larger Range Rover model.

The new Sport, like its bigger brother, has been given a sleeker look with hidden door handles and flush fitting glass. The biggest visual change comes at the rear, where the rear lights are integrated into a central strip.

A larger wheelbase provides more interior space than before, and a bigger boot.

While the new Sport looks familiar on the outside, under the skin it sits on an all-new platform. This provides greater opportunities for electrification and Land Rover has confirmed an all-electric Range Rover Sport will join the line-up in 2024.

For now, electrification comes in the form of a pair of mild-hybrid diesels, two mild-hybrid petrols and two plug-in hybrids. The latter two will be the most attractive to company car drivers.

The P440e and P510e are equipped with a 31.8kWh (usable) battery, providing a zero-emission range of 71 miles and 70 miles, respectively. Both use a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine and have WLTP CO2 emissions of 18-20g/km.

The 440PS P410e can accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds, while the 510PS P510e manages it in 5.2 seconds. Rapid charging (50kW) enables the battery to reach 80% in as little as 40 minutes.

The mild hybrid diesels – offered in D300 and D350 guise – emit from 194g/km. The petrol-powered P360 and P400 emit from 212g/km. All are 3.0-litre six-cylinder units. A petrol V8 flagship rounds off the line-up.

Land Rover says the new Sport is 35% stiffer than its predecessor, enhancing the driveability. The car is fitted with a new type of air suspension system and features active anti-roll bars to reduce lean when cornering.

A rear-wheel steering system is also fitted, reducing the car’s turning circle for easier manoeuvrability.

On the inside there’s Land Rover’s newest Pivi Pro infotainment system, delivered via a central 13.1-inch touchscreen. Independent switches for the climate control and drive modes remain, in an otherwise more minimalistic cabin.

Prices start at £79,125, for the D300, while plug-in models can be had from £83,330. There are three trim grades: SE, Dynamic SE and Autobiography.

Standard spec incudes Pixel LED headlights, a glass roof, 21-inch wheels, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, 3D surround camera, and adaptive cruise control.
