Renault has confirmed pricing and specification of the new Megane E-Tech hatchback plug-in hybrid, with on the road prices starting from £29,495.

Emissions start from 28g/km CO2 with a combined fuel economy of 235.4mpg (WLTP) and in pure electric mode it can cover up to 30 miles on a single charge,.

Its 9.8 kWh battery can be fully charged in three hours using a Type 2 charger or 4 hours and 15 minutes via a domestic three-pin plug socket. The battery also comes with the reassurance of an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty.

Drivers can switch simply from hybrid to pure electric power via the EV-only mode button on the dashboard

Business customers will benefit a benefit-in-kind tax rate of 11% and £0 VED costs for the first year.

It will replace the existing petrol and diesel variants offered currently.

The engine, which is already available in the Sports Tourer estate version of the Megane and the Captur, uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine, paired with an electric motor and battery.

A combined power output of 160PS allows the Megane E-Tech to accelerate from 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 114mph. 

Two trim levels will be available : Iconinc and RS Line. Both feature front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, digital instruments and keyless entry.

The Iconic trim level is equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

RS Line versions are fitted with RS Line bumpers, 17-inch alloy wheels and a 9.3-inch touchscreen.

The optional Safety Pack adds adaptive cruise control, Lane Keeping Assistance, and E-Call, and the Motorway Pack that includes the Traffic Jam Companion comprising adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go and Lane Centering, plus Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The new Megane hybrid is available to order now, with the first UK customers set to take delivery in September.
