Land Rover has added a new RDE2 diesel engine to its flagship Range Rover model, complete with a 48v mild-hybrid system.

The new 3.0-litre six cylinder ‘ingenium’ diesel, which replaces the existing V8 diesel, is offered with 300PS and 350PS power outputs.

It is capable of returning up to 33mpg, with CO2 emissions of 225g/km.

Despite Land Rover’s efforts, the new engine still falls into the highest 37% BIK banding for company car tax.

The brand says the new powertrain is suited to high-mileage customers and those who regularly tow.

Models with 300PS are known as D300 and deliver 650Nm of torque along with emissions from 225g/km. The more powerful D350 emits 241g/km and can return 30.8mpg. It develops 700Nm.

The P400e plug-in hybrid, which emits a more tax-friendly 75g/km of CO2, continues to be offered alongside the other petrol variants.

A number of special editions including the Westminster, Westminster Black Edition and an exclusive SVAutobiography Dynamic Black have joined the line up.

The new special edition models join the limited edition Range Rover Fifty, which was revealed last month and celebrates the 50th anniversary of Land Rover’s luxury SUV family. Only 1,970 of the exclusive Fifty models will be produced, to mark the year of its debut five decades ago.

Enhancements across the rest of the Range Rover line-up include the latest connected features, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offered as standard across the range for seamless smartphone integration.

There’s also a new Cabin Air Ionisation system with PM2.5 filters that prevent harmful particulates from entering the cabin.

Prices for the Range Rover start at £83,465 on-the-road.
