Mercedes-Benz has announced the pricing, specification and CO2 emissions for its new compact SUV, the GLA.
The car is on now on sale, with prices starting from £32,640 on-the-road (OTR) for the entry-level GLA 200 Sport.
First customer deliveries are expected to arrive in summer 2020.
The new model is set to rival the BMW X2 and Audi Q2, bringing a range of new technology to the segment from larger Mercedes models.
The GLA is initally available with a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines. A plug-in hybrid, the GLA 250e, will joing the range later in the year.
The GLA 200 uses a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 163PS, while The GLA 250 uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine offering 224PS.
The diesel-powered GLA 200 d – available in either two-wheel or all-wheel-drive has a 2.0-litre engine capable of producing 150PS and 320 Nm. It can deliver up to 53.3 mpg.
The GLA 220 d has an output of 190PS.
A longer wheelbase and raised roof provides more head and leg room, while overall length has been reduced to give the car a more compact footprint
Boot space has increased from the previous GLA to 435 litres. The rear seats can be optionally adjusted by 14cm and the rear seat backrest set to a steeper rake, making room for larger items.
Off-road capability is enhanced with shorter overhangs and protective cladding around the body.
Versions equipped with 4Matic all-wheel-drive also feature a hill descent assist function and an off-road driving mode.
The optional Driving Assistance Package (£1,495) introduces new features such as the turning manoeuvre function, the emergency corridor function, the exit warning function alerting the driver to approaching cyclists or vehicles, and a warning when pedestrians are detected near zebra crossings.
Features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and blind spot montoring are also available. For the first time the blind spot monitor can warn the driver or passenger of an approaching obstruction before they open the door to exit the vehicle.
Like the A-Class, on which it is based, the GLA features Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system and two-screen digital cockpit system.

I am a little confused,as to why manufactures are putting all there eggs in one basket ,on the subject of alternate fuels, what as happened regarding Fuel cell alternative ,Hydrogen for example! Surely the best solution for the environment.
