Volkswagen has added three new trim levels to its Golf range, which the manufacturer says provide £1,910 of extra equipment for a £400 premium.

Match Edition, GT Edition and R-Line Edition replace Match, GT and R-Line respectively and add dual-zone climate control, LED headlights and Winter Pack, which includes heated front seats, headlight washers and heated windscreen washer jets.

The new trim levels cost £400 more than their predecessors, but Volkswagen says the extra equipment is worth £1,910 if equipped individually.

Volkswagen traditionally introduces Edition trim levels to products which are near the end of their current generation, with the next Golf set to be revealed later this year.

Dan Piper, golf product manager at Volkswagen UK, said: “The Edition trim trio further strengthens the Golf’s appeal with a generous package of added equipment, boosting value by over £1,500 when factoring in the small revision in price over the outgoing Match, GT and T-Line trims.”

Orders are now open for the enhanced Edition trims, with deliveries starting in October.

Customers who ordered one of the three outgoing trims after September 16 will be automatically upgraded to Match Edition, GT Edition or R-Line Edition.

Last month Volkswagen reduced the price of its fully-electric e-Golf by almost £3,000.
