Toyota has published increased CO2 emissions figures for the Prius and Prius+, based on new WLTP testing.

The official figure for the standard Prius Hybrid (on 15-inch wheels) has jumped from 70g/km to 78g/km, meaning that cars sold from February 2018 will no longer be congestion charge exempt as the current limit is 75g/km.

Prius models with larger wheels have seen an increase to 82g/km.

As a result the car jumps from 13% Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) to 17% and will find itself in the 19% band next year.

The combined fuel consumption figures for the two models have been updated to 83.1mpg (15-inch wheels) and 78.5mpg (17-inch wheels).

Larger Prius+ models now have official CO2 emissions of 106g/km – 112g/km, depending on wheel size.

The plug-in hybrid version of the Prius is still the most efficient with CO2 emissions of 28g/km, increasing from 22g/km.

The published figures were tested under WLTP standards then converted to equivalent NEDC. WLTP figures will be rolled out in 2019.

The Prius and Prius+ are the first of the manufacturer’s UK models to adopt new fuel consumption and CO2 emissions data linked to the forthcoming WLTP programme for vehicle testing.
