Renault is in the process of recalling 15,000 diesel-engined cars worldwide.

The Press Association reported around 270 Renault Capturs are likely to be affected in the UK.

The recall follows, though is believed to be unrelated to, French government investigations in the wake of the Volkswagen emissions scandal, in which three separate Renault premises were investigated.

French energy minister Segolene Royal said that emissions levels were too high, the BBC reports.

She said: "Renault has committed to recalling a certain number of vehicles, more than 15,000 vehicles, to check them and adjust them correctly so the filtration system works even when it is very hot or when it is below 17 degrees, because that's when the filtration system no longer worked."

A Renault statement released on Tuesday said approximately 15,000 cars fitted with dCi110 (1.5-litre) engines are involved.

It said the recall would recalibrate the engine’s control unit, and had been identified, resolved and put into production vehicles from September 2015.

Dacia and Nissan vehicles also use a variation of the dCi110 engines, but it is not yet known if these are affected.
