Five more electric vehicle charging networks have joined Zap-Map’s payment system, Zap-Pay.

GeniePoint, Char.gy, Motor Fuel Group (MFG), Revive and Mer have signed up to the service, joining ESB Energy and Osprey.

Once all seven networks are live – expected to be by October – Zap-Pay will cover more than 2,000 charging devices across the UK and more than 4,000 connectors.

It also covers a wide variety of charge point types, from ultra-rapid chargers through to on-street and lamp-post charging.

Alex Earl, commercial director at Zap-Map, said: “As EVs become mainstream, we need to make paying for charging as simple as possible, and that’s exactly what Zap-Pay does.

“As a single-app payment solution, it avoids the hassle of using different payment methods across all the various networks.”

Geniepoint, has a national network of destination and rapid chargers at locations such as Morrisons and Premier Inn, while MFG is the largest independent forecourt operator in the UK.

Char.gy provides on-street charging, while Revive is a network for the west of England. Mer is owned by Norwegian company Statkraft.

EV charge point mapping service Zap-Map was launched in 2014 and says it currently displays more than 95% of the UK’s public charge point, of which around 70% show live status data updated every five minutes.

It launched Zap-Pay in September last year and Zap-Map says it will allow drivers to locate chargers, plan longer journeys and pay for charging.
