DS Automobiles is claiming to be the only luxury car maker to achieve the new European Commission average emissions target of 95g/km.

The Groupe PSA brand achieved average fleet emissions of 79.9g/km in the first half of 2020, according to figures from Jato.

In 2020, the emission targets apply for each manufacturer’s 95% least emitting new cars. From 2021 on, the average emissions of all newly registered cars of a manufacturer will have to be below the target.

The average fleet emissions of DS were below rivals, with no other multi-enegery premium manufacturer achieving a fleet rating of below 110g/km CO2.

Any brand that fails to meet the target will be fined €95 for each g/km exceeded for every vehicle registered. Europe’s 13 top car manufacturers are predicted to miss their 2021 CO2 emissions targets and face fines of more than €14.5bn (£12.5bn), according to analysis by PA Consulting.

DS says the result comes from its ongoing commitment to electrification. Since 2019, the DS 3 Crossback and DS 7 Crossback have been available with electrified versions, while the DS 9 saloon will be available with a range of plug-in powertrains.

The DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, DS’s first 100% electric vehicle, comes with a 200-mile range. By 2025, DS says it will only offer electrified powertrains.
