In a significant step to further enhance road safety, Fleet Witness proudly launched it’s new Progressive Safe System at the end of last year, ahead of TfL’s October 2024 Deadline. To be eligible for a permit from TfL, operators must ensure that any HGV vehicle over 12 tonnes has a minimum ‘three-star’ rating, or fit a ‘Progressive Safe System (PSS)’ solution to improve vehicle safety. The new Fleet Witness solution is designed specifically to help operators meet the new safety requirements and avoid fines of £550 per day, as well as £130 for the driver of a non-compliant vehicle.
The new Fleet Witness PSS solution includes a Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) which uses radar technology to monitor moving objects on the nearside of the vehicle. This advanced technology is designed to accurately alert drivers only when a collision with a Vulnerable Road User (VRU) becomes imminent. Additionally, their Moving Off Information System (MOIS) utilises the very same technology to identify VRUs who are within or entering the front critical blind spot area of the vehicle.
