A new artificial intelligence (AI) solution has been launched to assess the external condition of a vehicle’s body.

AI Inspection, launched by Tractable, the company developing AI for visual assessment and disaster recovery, allows a vehicle’s external condition to be assessed via a smartphone through a web-based app.

The solution helps accelerate any process where a vehicle’s condition is required, including purchasing, selling a vehicle, returning a rental or leased unity, or recycling parts at end-of-life, Tractable said.

Jimmy Spears, head of automotive at Tractable, said: “With AI Inspection, we have created a powerful AI tool that is not only capable of accurately assessing the exterior condition of a vehicle’s body, but can be carried around in your smartphone.

“We already work with US insurers to improve auto claims. AI Inspection will unlock efficiencies for the broader vehicle ecosystem, where there are huge gains to be made with faster ways of performing manual tasks, with cutting-edge technology.”

Once a video of a car is uploaded, the tool can recognise what, if any, parts are damaged.

The AI can also interact with the person taking a video to request specific additional information to ensure that the AI assessment is backed-up by the correct photographic evidence, the company said.

Tractable uses live-guided video capture and AI fraud checks to ensure that the full state of the right car is captured, it said.

A behavioural AI system claims to prevent more than 90% of crashes by predicting the actions of pedestrians and other road users and alerting the driver to a potential incident.

Transport for London (TfL) also announced it was adopting adopting AI and simulation technology to detect disruption on the capital’s road network.

AI Inspection is available in North America and Japan.
