Appleby Westward Group, the regional distribution centre for convenience store group Spar, has installed Teletrac Navman telematics across its entire fleet following a six-month trial.

The South West-based wholesaler, who had previously not used telematics, has signed a three-year contract to use the technology in its 14 HGVs and 30 passenger cars.

Each HGV will deploy an integrated dash cam, while in addition to the vehicle's tachograph, which is used to monitor driver hours and simplify compliance, the M-NAV fleet tracking and management solution have also been installed.

Appleby Westward’s fleet of cars will also contain dash cams as well as privacy buttons, with the latter distinguishing between business and private mileage.

The deal also comprises an aftercare package, including training so all fleet managers and drivers have a thorough understanding of how the system works and how best to put it to use to maximise results.

Rob Chapman-Brookes, transport manager at Appleby Westward, said: “When seeking our telematics provider, we took into consideration those areas which most affected our business, including tailored solutions to meet our needs, aftercare service and financial return – Teletrac Navman ticked all the boxes.

“Given that before adopting Teletrac Navman’s technology we relied solely on manual timesheets, the deployment of industry-leading solutions will prevent us from falling behind the curve and give us the visibility we need to make effective improvements quickly.

"We are also hoping to free up valuable resource by removing manual processes and ensure greater integration across our fleet.”
