Traffic commissioners Sarah Bell, Nick Denton and Kevin Rooney will be redeployed from October 31, following the appointment of Nick Jones as the first, full-time traffic commissioner for Wales by the Welsh Government.

Jones will vacate his role as traffic commissioner for the West Midlands when he takes up the appointment on October 1.

As a result, Denton will be redeployed as the traffic commissioner for the West Midlands, based in Birmingham.

Bell will become the traffic commissioner for London and the south east of England, based in Eastbourne, and Rooney will be redeployed as traffic commissioner for the west of England, based in Bristol.

Rooney will retain his role as traffic commissioner for the north east of England in the interim.

The changes will officially take effect from October 31 but transitional arrangements will be made during the month of October to prepare for the redeployments and ensure that licensing and regulatory activities are not affected.

The  redeployment  of  traffic  commissioners  is  formally directed by the senior traffic commissioner, as set out in the Local Transport Act 2008, in consultation with the appointed traffic commissioners.

Senior traffic commissioner Beverley Bell (pictured) said: “I congratulate my colleague, Nick Jones, on his appointment as the first, full-time traffic commissioner for  Wales.

"His commitment to proper regulation in the country is well established and I know his knowledge and expertise will be vital in setting up a full-time service for operators and the travelling public.

“I  am  also  confident that the redeployment of my fellow commissioners Nick Denton, Sarah Bell and Kevin Rooney will ensure these three diverse regions continue to be regulated efficiently, effectively and proportionately.”
