Allstar has helped Spie UK save on its administration costs after being awarded a sole supply fuel card contract following an extensive tender process.

Spie UK, a subsidiary of Spie group, provides energy, safety and environmentally focused solutions across multi-technical and support services from initial design, through installation, testing, commissioning to long term maintenance and facilities management.

Patrick Nolan, fleet manager for Spie UK, said: “Over the last eight years in the UK market, the Spie group has earned a fantastic reputation for working with our customers to help them design, build, operate and maintain energy efficient facilities.

“The business has grown substantially during this period through acquisition and organic growth.  Whilst this is obviously good news, it did come with its own challenges when it came to fuel cards and fuel management.

“The key issue was we were operating eight different fuel card accounts, with a range of contracts including direct with the fuel companies as well as having volume with Allstar and the supermarkets.

“With each account being managed differently, it was wasting valuable time and resources and ultimately having an impact on the bottom line of the business.”

Spie UK, with more than 3,000 employees, operates over 1000 vehicles and fuel cards.  T

he mixed vehicle fleet is made up of light commercial vehicles (two thirds), cars (over a third) and a number of HGVs.

The business also operates a number of specialist vehicles including cherry pickers that are used to service overhead lines.

Nolan continued: “To combat these issues, we decided to consolidate our fleet management into one business function and this involved looking for a sole fuel card partner.

“The key part of the tender process was network size, so it was essential the fuel card supplier we worked with could provide the biggest network possible.

“We awarded the contract to Allstar based on the fact that it does operate the largest and most convenient fuel network, that all fuel transactions are sent to us in one HMRC approved invoice and that their cards provide a high level of control to restrict drivers to purchase fuel only.  This alone has already saved the business significantly in wasted administration time.”

“In addition to this, the company also demonstrated through its fuel management reporting and analysis that it could add real value to our business.

“Critical information like CO2 reports, being able to identify where drivers should and shouldn’t be filling up, and reports into real time MPGs has enabled us to implement a more effective and efficient fuel management strategy.”

Laura Woodman at Allstar, said: “We have made some real improvements to our service offering in the last few years to complement our fuel network and one area where we have invested heavily is being much more proactive when it comes to working with our customers on a consultancy basis and providing timely management information.

“Spie UK is a leading player in its field and we are delighted that we were awarded this contact following a highly competitive tender process.”
