Fleet Evolution is speaking out in favour of car sharing, which it believes could not only decrease the number of vehicles on the roads, but could also help reduce pollution dramatically.

It’s estimated that over 10m empty cars travel Britain’s roads each day, with as many as 38m empty seats in cars during rush hour. Many of these cars will have four extra seats – some could even accommodate as many as six extra people. Fleet Evolution believes that opening up these seats to other commuters or travellers heading to similar destinations, motorists could be doing the environment a world of good.

Andrew Leech, managing director of Fleet Evolution (pictured), said, “Car sharing is a great way to reduce the number of cars on the roads, which means less pollution. With less cars out and about, the roads also become less congested, which means fewer traffic jams and faster journeys – even better news for the environment.”

He added: “As well as helping our clients to realise just how efficient their salary sacrifice schemes could be, we’re committed to raising awareness of solutions like car schemes, all of which contribute to making our roads safer and greener.”

Many companies already have car-sharing schemes that allow employees to arrange transportation to and from the workplace. If half of the UK’s motorists received a lift to work just one day out of the five-day working week, it’s estimated that congestion could be reduced by 10%, and traffic jams could be reduced by a fifth.

Fleet Evolution is seeking to encourage more businesses to implement car-sharing schemes among their staff – and if a business won’t implement a formal one, employees can create an informal setup of their own, sharing vehicles with other local staff and taking it in turns to drive.
