Winter driving raises lots of potential challenges for company drivers, from the risk of icy patches to staying warm in the event of traffic congestion caused by heavy snow.

But there are plenty of things you can do to stay safe while driving in cold and freezing temperatures, according to performance carmaker CUPRA. Here are its top 10 tips for winter driving.

1.      Make a pre-journey check of oil, coolant and screen wash.

2.      Check tyre pressures and tread depths.

3.      Check lights - including fog lights - are working.

4.      Ensure safety features are activated.

5.      Carry sunglasses to defend against the blinding glare of low winter sun.

6.      Check the weather forecast and try to avoid driving in snowy or icy                   conditions.

7.      Plan your electric journey by identifying public charging sites along the             route.

8.      Pack warm clothing, a torch and blankets should you get stranded.

9.      If there is snow, accelerate slowly, keep revs low and brake gently.

10.   Take advantage of a winter health check at your local retailer.
