Following a “successful” first year using Trakm8 telematics, ScottishPower has announced the installation of dashboard cameras.

The company currently operates 1,500 vehicles and as part of its vehicle replacement scheme, it will install Trakm8’s RoadHawk DC-2 forward facing camera throughout the new fleet.

The RoadHawk DC-2 features full 1080p video recording, gyro-balanced image stabilisation and a high-quality sensor, the camera is able to produce evidence in bright and low-light scenarios.

Scottish Power’s contracts manager Marc Currie said: “Choosing Trakm8 as our camera supplier was an easy decision after the company demonstrated such a positive set of results in our first annual telematics review.

"Driver safety remains at the forefront of our actions and we believe installing cameras in our new vehicles will further improve the safety of our drivers.”

The camera’s inbuilt G-force sensor means the camera automatically saves clips to a separate ‘event’ folder when it detects a sudden jolt or impact, ensuring that important footage isn’t overwritten or lost in the event of an accident.

The four-year partnership was announced in 2016, and in Decemeber 2017 Scottish Power reported significant savings and positive changes in speeding and idling, accounting for a 10% increase in fuel efficiency.

Trakm8’s managing director of fleet and optimisation Colin Ferguson said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Scottish Power as the company to help them further improve the safety of their workforce through vehicle cameras.”
