BMW has unveiled the second-generation X2, which includes an electric iX2 variant.

The new models are available to order now, with first deliveries due in March.

Pricing starts at £39,365 for the X2 and £50,710 for the iX2.

A new body type has been adopted for the X2, which is longer than before and now features a coupe-like silhouette.

The car shares a platform with the recently-launched X1 and iX1 but sets itself apart with a unique front-end design.

The X2's interior shares a familiar architecture with the X1 and 2 Series Active Tourer, centred around a central touchscreen display.

Powertrains will be shared with those models too. For now, BMW is only offering the X2 with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine (sDrive20i) and a sporty 2.0-litre M35i.

The iX2 launches with two variants: eDrive20 and xDrive30. The eDrive20 uses a 204PS electric motor, which powers the front wheels, while the xDrive30 has a 313PS twin-motor powertrain.

Both iX2 variants are fitted with a 64.8kWh. battery. It gives a WLTP range of up to 297 miles in the eDrive20 and up to 266 miles in the xDrive30.

AC charging up to 11kW as standard, which means the high-voltage battery can be recharged from 0 to 100% in 6.5 hours. Customers can also choose three-phase AC charging up to 22kW as an option. This reduces the charging time to 3 hours 45 minutes. DC charging up to 130kW at a suitable fast-charging station makes it possible to boost the high-voltage battery’s energy reserves from 10% to 80% capacity in 29 minutes.

Boot capacity varies depending on powertrain. The M35i has 560 litres of space, the sDrive20i has 515 litres and the iX2 offers 525 litres.

The X2 and iX2 debuts in M Sport trim, featuring LED headlights, an electric tailgate, connected infotainment package, parking sensors and a reversing camera.
