Arval is working with the Freight Transport Association (FTA) to put employees through the Excellence in Van Operations qualification.

Part of Arval’s commitment to service, the vehicle leasing and fleet management company expects all corporate sales and business managers to be trained and accredited in the near future.

The training (and qualification) forms part of the FTA Van Excellence programme which was launched in 2011. It has become the operating standard for LCV fleets across all sectors.

Originally designed to support van operators at a manager and supervisor level, Arval identified important value in putting its own employees through the training. It is vital that Arval employees understand and align processes to the needs of their customers and the Operators Certificate is one of many steps they are taking to achieve this.

The comprehensive training session delivers a robust framework to which van operators can align themselves. This allows them to ultimately raise operational standards through proactive management. The benefits of this include reduced costs, improvements in operational efficiency and Health and Safety compliance.

Liam Cresswell, sales manager at Arval, was the first employee to take part in the training. He said: “Leasing more than 30,000 LCV’s in the UK alone, we’re a company that really understand commercial vehicles and the challenges around operating a commercial fleet. As proactive supplier to major fleet operators, it’s our duty to work alongside customers to develop cost effective, efficient solution that comply with all type of legislation.

“The Van Excellence programme is a great initiative and it’s completely aligned to our views on best practice. As a proactive, customer focused business, we naturally welcome any opportunity to develop our products, services and the support that we provide to our customers and this training is an important tool to support this.”

A recognised partner of the Freight Transport Association’s Van Excellence programme, Arval is keen to continually improve the customer experience. Membership of the Van Excellence programme is an important way of doing this and Arval has built strong relationships with the FTA in recent years.

Mark Cartwright, Head of Vans and Logistics Buyers at the FTA added: “We are delighted with Arval’s efforts and the investment in their teams with this training and qualification. I’ve worked with Arval for a number of years and as an organisation, they have really embraced the Van Excellence programme and have gone beyond my expectations. Appointing Liam Cresswell is a strong move and as one of the industries rising stars, I foresee a great future for him and for Arval”.
