BT Fleet have been awarded the Motor Transport award for best use of technology award 2013 for its innovation in engine remapping.

TV personality Dara O’Briain presented the award to BT Fleet MD, Dave Bowen at the Motor Transport annual awards ceremony. The judges commented ‘strong R&D and excellent innovation has seen creative thinking in a big impact in a big project with big benefits’.

By optimising the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to the ideal profile for individual fleet operations, BT Fleet’s Engine Remapping service enables operators to achieve significant fuel and CO2 efficiencies all within manufacturer tolerances and warranties.

High levels of driver satisfaction have also been achieved with the new technology, with many drivers commenting on how responsive the engines feel after the remapping.

BT Fleet's engine remapping proramme also won the Fleet News 2013 cost saving initiative of the year award back in March.

Developed in collaboration with Viezu, the recorded fuel efficiency gains are substantial and typically between 11-16%. Already implemented across BT’s 22,000 commercial van fleet, this has resulted in savings of £4m per year and cut 25,000 tonnes of CO2 from exhaust emissions.

BT Fleet’s Engine Remapping service is now available to all commercial fleets in the UK.Trained technicians at BT Fleet’s owned network of 63 garages perform the service. The remapping can be done alongside other scheduled works and requires no other action by the vehicle owner or driver to start achieving immediate results.

Dave Bowen, managing director, BT Fleet said: "Over the last 3 years, BT Fleet has pioneered a series of initiatives that have enabled customers to reduce operating costs and lower capital requirements without any impact on fleet efficiency. This award recognises that our engine remapping service now adds significantly to what commercial vehicle fleets can achieve."
