National pump and plant hire company Selwood has spent £1.4 million in the past year on upgrading its vehicle fleet.

Throughout 2013 Selwood took time to review the company’s van buying policy and decided to replace a sizeable part of its van fleet with Mercedes Benz product, taking in a mix of Vito, Sprinter SWB and Sprinter MWB vans.

Paul Green, Selwood transport manager, said: "This decision was based mainly upon comparable whole life cost but important factors taken into consideration were the provision of a full seven year fixed cost repair and maintenance contract, the latest Euro 5 engine technology, superb product reliability and back up service together with improved vehicle safety features."

This decision brings all of Selwood’s commercial vehicle fleet under the Mercedes Benz badge as the company has long been an operator of Mercedes trucks. The initial order in the first batch of Mercedes vans was for 19 units worth over £450k.

This year Selwood has also invested an additional £895k in updating and adding to its LGV, small vans and car fleet.
