Tracker is continuing to invest in bringing its telematics solutions to the insurance industry with the appointment of Mark Thomson as director of insurance development.

Thomson joins Tracker from Provident Insurance, where he worked for four years. He was responsible for Yes Insurance and Vauxhall Insurance brands. Prior to that, he worked for AVIVA, supporting a range of its businesses.

In his new role, he will further develop affinity relationships with insurers and insurance brokers.

Thomson’s appointment follows Tracker’s successful partnership with Direct Line, which is currently trialling and evaluating how best to deliver telematics technology into the retail motor insurance arena.

“Insurance telematics is now a political issue, including proposals to force insurers to offer telematics to drivers,” said Thomson.

“This serves to reinforce the need for the insurance industry to embrace this technology sooner rather than later.

“Tracker stands in good stead to assist those insurers who are ready now to commercialise their telematics solutions, before legislation dictates it.

“Our technology will help insurers lower premiums for those where measured driving behaviour proves that they are less of an insurance risk.

“It could benefit a good number of women drivers when the EU gender ruling comes into play later this year.

“Furthermore, it will offer a mechanism for young drivers, who have seen significant premium increases in the last two years, to reduce the cost of insurance through demonstrating their driving ability to insurers.”
