Compare the best contract hire rates

Fleet News has linked up with comparecontracthire.com to launch a leasing comparator tool for cars.

Now available on the Fleet News website, the comparator enables fleets to compare leasing rates for every new car via seven leading contract hire providers.

Simply select the manufacturer and model to compare current leasing prices on three-year/30,000-mile non-maintenance contracts to find the right deal for your business. The best rate offered at that time will be displayed for each model derivative in the range.

Fleets can then request additional information. The service offers smaller companies a simple way of staying informed about the best leasing prices. Fleets can also use the comparator to benchmark their current prices.

Further details can be requested via the information form. Fleets can also set their own terms, including length of contract, mileage and with-maintenance to tailor the online quote.

All the car and van finance partners are full members of the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association and adhere to its standards of customer service and best practice.

Hahahaha! Seriously, these must be some of the worst rates on the market. How much does Fleet News get (as a cut) for every rental? There are loads of cheaper rates out there, not just mine. My keyboard broken due to tears from too much LOLing at this. Ling

I did'nt realise it was April's fool day already!! Really Fleet News should know better that to pull a stupid stunt like this. Contract hire rates are more volatile than ever, and I (as probably every decent broker can) can beat every single rate on the specials page. For Example Astra 1.4 Life a/c £336 from Arval, we can offer Astra 1.7 CDti SE 5dr (yes before you ask, new model) for £224.99 + VAT, that is over £110 a month LESS for a BETTER DIESEL Model (no hidden costs either) Great Tool Fleet News, now bring on todays main news about the cost of contract hiring a reindeer!

This is great. Nothing like a bit of "mine's cheaper than yours" controversy. I suppose what the smaller brokers are up against is the reach and reputation of Fleet News. You can see why they'd be concerned. And Fleet News now has to be clear how much it will allow its commercial activities to compromise its editorial independence. It's playing broker now, so everything you see on here about leasing, contract hire and brokers needs to be read with that in mind. Don't suppose Comparecontracthire.com can win a Fleet News award now but it might bring the journalists a bit closer to the BVRLA!

Not me up against Fleet News, Mandy... my customers are (nearly all) consumers :) With 120,000 uniques to my website every month, Fleet News will have to try hard to get that many people to view their "offers". But still, I want to know what the deal is? How much do Fleet News cream off from supplying these? Or for supplying the clicks? They don't declare an interest, but sure as eggs are eggs there will be a backhander, here. Will fleet news expand into expensive parts supply, too? Will Fleet News start offering small discounts on new cars soon, too? And allege they undercut franchise dealers? :) Will fleet news start offering car servicing now? Will the whole business community buy their new cars via Fleet News? ...Try and compare my 20 bestselling cars instead of stuff you can't get hold of, Compareiseasy. I have 7000 deals listed, sure you can find 2 or 3 cars that you beat me on :) But, as Cliff says, on the whole your prices are sky-high. Ouch! - Ling

I think you're absolutely right, Ling. Fleet News will be looking at all kinds of commercial opportunities. Its world has been turned upside down by the internet. Leasing companies now have excellent news, information and advice on their websites. The BVRLA keeps its members very well informed and these organisations have deep relationships with their customers. With ACFO and ICFM looking after fleet operators' interests, too, some people might wonder why they need Fleet News. The defence has always been "it's independent" and I'm sure the editorial team can still hold up their heads and say that. There's nothing wrong with commercial arrangements. Advertising has been a perfectly acceptable one for years. Fleet News will benefit from its relationship with CCH.com and as long as the brand doesn't just become a funnel to send customers down that route, it should be OK. It could go into fleet manager training next, driver training and risk management, there's probably a white label breakdown deal to be done too. And as long as Fleet News sees other operators moving into its publishing and media territory, it will feel somewhat vindicated.

Hi Guys, this isn’t about comparing rates, that’s not the important issue here. Fleet News has always been the one publication you could read for fair unbiased opinion, although clearly, contributors such as ourselves, have always been able to have our say (irrespective of some of our weird views) and that’s good, but what’s happening here is that Fleet News is losing its editorial integrity and as such, in future, cant be relied upon to be open honest and unbiased as in the past. Like most of you, I love the publication, but frankly, I really don’t think I can read it in the same open way, knowing that perhaps certain items of editorial could be angled towards supporting their “own” commercial partners as opposed to being a flag bearer for the industry as a whole. Clearly, the support and arrangement with this commercial organisation is aimed at pushing the products that organisation offers, else why would they do it? But in doing this, its showing preference over the rest of the leasing industry and because of that, I believe the publication has demonstrated it has lost its independence, which was in the always something Fleet News was I believe proud of. Journalists need to write with honesty and integrity and a commercial tie up at the very least bring that into question. Bad move Fleet News, your credibility is on the line here.
