Vauxhall has confirmed details of the powertrains that will be available in the new Frontera, including the range of the electric model.

The Frontera will join its line-up between the Mokka and Grandland, this summer.

It marks the return of the Frontera name that was originally used on an SUV in the 90s.

The new Frontera will replace the Vauxhall Crossland. It will be offered with petrol-hybrid and electric powertrains.

The Frontera Electric will be available in two versions, offering ranges of 186 or 248 miles. Its motor will have a power output of 113PS.

The Frontera Hybrid has a 100PS 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine developed specifically for hybrid use. This operates in combination with an electrified six-speed dual clutch transmission, so that fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are significantly lower compared to a conventionally powered model. The Frontera Hybrid will also be available with an output of 136PS.

James Taylor, managing director, Vauxhall, said: “The New Frontera is our new family-size SUV, offering customers innovative and practical electric mobility at an affordable price. Highly flexible with up to seven seats, spacious, and with a choice of hybrid and electric powertrains, we’re confident that Frontera will appeal to new and existing audiences as well as sit very well in our revised SUV line-up in between Mokka and the forthcoming All-New Grandland.”

The Frontera features Vauxhall's signature Visor grille, which integrates with the front headlights. It has a boxy appearance which benefits interior space.

Vauxhall said the new model offers more than 460 litres of luggage space in the boot – with the seats folded down, the capacity increases to up to 1,600 litres.

The car's interior features Pure Panel, like the Astra. This combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen into one panoramic panel.

The trim line-up will mirror the current Vauxhall range with Design, GS and Ultimate versions.  Full UK pricing and specification will be announced at a later date.
