Geotab has introduced a Privacy Mode so drivers can disable GPS and speed profiles.

Drivers that require intervals of privacy can now temporarily shield their vehicle tracking with MyGeotab fleet management.

Drivers who use work vehicles on their own personal time can enable Privacy Mode and features that use use GPS such as position, trips and speed profiles are not displayed.

Privacy Mode provides drivers and dispatchers with the ability to distinguish between trips and as a result, manage privacy accordingly.

Available capabilities of Geotab’s Privacy Mode feature include:

  • Privacy Mode can be set to automatically turn on during specific times of the day or in specific geographic regions. In this way, drivers can be confident their driving activity during personal time is not displayed and dispatchers are assured work hours are set to be tracked.
  • Privacy Mode can also be manually assigned in the Geotab Drive App or in MyGeotab in real-time, depending on individual requirements.
  • Vehicle generated data collected by a vehicle in Privacy Mode is securely stored as ‘private’, such that businesses will not have access to data processed during the time the vehicle is in Privacy Mode. This data can be set to permanently purge after a time interval.

Geotab’s chief executive Neil Cawse (pictured) said: “Data privacy continues to make its way higher up on the priority list for fleet managers.

“Geotab’s new Privacy Mode feature provides fleet managers with another level of customisation for their telematics solution without limiting the richness and utility of the data available to them.”
