Licence Bureau is celebrating a continuation of fleet compliance as it checks its three millionth licence.

The volume of licence checks moved from two million to three million between June 2016 and February 2018, while its previous growth from one to two million checks took 35 months and its first million a decade, DVLA data shows.

Licence Check feels contributing factors could include a reduction in licence checking fees, ability to source immediate results and the introduction of convictions online only.

The current biggest contributor is the imminent arrival of the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation on May 25.

Its requirement to ensure consent, enable employees to access their own data and retention of data means outsourcing this process is much more cost effective.

Licence Bureau’s managing director Malcolm Maycock (pictured) said: “A combination of legislation and education has meant that compliance is now higher on company agendas of all sizes than ever before. This has accelerated us hitting the 3m licence check landmark.

“We are now just waiting for the DVLA to give the industry its final guidance in March 2018 which will help us get employers ready for the 25 May GDPR deadline.”
