Goodyear has launched Goodyear SightLine - a tyre intelligence solution for vans which uses cloud-based algorithms to communicate with fleet operators in real-time.

Aimed at vehicles serving the field service, construction and last-mile delivery industries, the technology will not only provide feedback on the tyre, but also on road conditions, says the manufacturer.

It will be available later this year in North America and Europe to Goodyear’s original equipment customers and emerging fleet and mobility providers.

Chris Helsel, chief technology officer and senior vice-president, global operations, said: “Much like smart watches that monitor vitals like heart rates and oxygen levels, Goodyear SightLine’s tyre intelligence monitors the health of a tyre.

“Goodyear SightLine takes the mystery out of understanding tyres and provides mobility insights to communicate when tyres need service or replacement.”

Goodyear said its proprietary predictive maintenance technologies can help to address many challenges facing drivers and fleet managers, including predicting breakdowns, minimising downtime and monitoring tyre pressure and wear for enhanced safety and more cost-efficient mobility.

The company said it has accumulated billions of test miles on tyre solutions powered by Goodyear SightLine to establish the groundwork for a future in which every tyre provides intelligence.

Goodyear has articulated a company goal to have tyre intelligence in all new products by 2027.

Earlier this month, Goodyear and ZF launched a combined connected tyre and fleet management package for commercial truck and trailer operators.
