Ryder supplies Igloo Thermo-Logistics with new vehicles

New Igloo Thermo-Logistics van

Ryder has supplied chilled courier Igloo Thermo-Logistics with 10 new refrigerated delivery vehicles to continue servicing its partnership with national charity Magic Breakfast.

As the official delivery partner, Igloo has been helping Magic Breakfast provide healthy school breakfasts to children in disadvantaged areas of the UK since 2010.

The 10 new vehicles are 3.5-tonne Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans with Solomon fridge bodies and Carrier Transicold Xarios fridge units, and operate from Igloo’s three depots in Coventry, Leeds, and Watford.

Aside from servicing the Magic Breakfast contract, Igloo offers a multi-temperature food courier service with national coverage and delivers all sizes of refrigerated consignments from parcels to pallets.

"We deliver chilled produce into restaurants, airports, train stations, hospitals, and schools on behalf of food producers and distributors, from small start-ups to large corporations," said Leigh Ogley, operations director at Igloo.

The 10 new vehicles from Ryder are primarily being used to deliver product for breakfast clubs under the National Schools Breakfast Programme, which Magic Breakfast was recently awarded funding to deliver.

"We needed the new vehicles to have a good payload so we can maximise the volume we put in them, hence them having a long wheelbase,” said Ogley. “They are making around 20 drops a day, five times a week to the schools, and will be in operation 39-weeks of the year, so we estimate they will do around 40,000 miles a year.”

He added that as a first-time customer of Ryder he was impressed by the "willingness of Ryder to provide flexibility in the contract to suit our operational requirements".

Jon Gordon, Ryder area sales manager, said: "Flexibility was a vital prerequisite for the chosen vehicle provider and as a new customer to Ryder, it has been fascinating to understand the requirements of Igloo’s contract for Magic Breakfast. Ryder looks forward to continuing to work with Igloo for its future fleet requirements."

Ryder UK was established in 1971 and has grown through acquisition and organic development into a fleet of nearly 20,000 vans, trucks and trailers.
