The opportunities and challenges of truck platooning will be among the hot topics up for discussion at the Freight Transport Association (FTA) Fleet Engineer Conference on November 28 at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

The conference, sponsored by Volvo Trucks, Brigade Electronics, Goodyear Tyre, and Texaco will provide delegates with an opportunity to hear the very latest developments in commercial vehicle technology, maintenance legislation changes and best practice advice from leading names from across the sector.  It is ideal for those with responsibilities for specifying commercial vehicles, ensuring roadworthiness, compliance and maintaining a fleet, says the FTA.

In addition to platooning, delegates will also have the opportunity to hear about and discuss other key issues facing the industry, including the likely implications of Transport for London’s Direct Vision Standard and the latest on low carbon vehicles.

FTA’s head of automotive, Lawrie Alford, says this year’s line-up promises to be a fascinating insight for anyone involved in commercial vehicles.

“This has been such a big year for fleet engineering, with freight transport hardly out of the headlines,” said Alford. “Whether it’s platooning, reducing emissions or vehicle safety, there is so much to discuss. This year’s FTA Fleet Engineer will have the latest from key figures on all these issues and a lot more. It’s definitely a date to put in your diary.”

Other topics on the agenda include: DVSA Earned Recognition/digital data; gas vehicles/electric vehicles; the Bath tipper tragedy - lessons learnt and industry implications; future of heavy vans – (up to 4.250); and upskilling technical teams and CPD.
