Small fleets and truck excellence programmes are FTA focus

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) was focusing on ‘little and large’ at Commercial Fleet Van and Truck.

The trade body was seeing interest in its newly launched Truck Excellence programme, and emphasising compatibility with Transport for London’s work-related road risk scheme.

At the other end of the spectrum, Mark Cartwright, head of Van Excellence, was pushing the Small Fleet programme.

"Many of our Van Excellence members are civil engineering firms, who want to cascade their best practice standards down to their sub-contractors,” he said.

The programme, which is targeted primarily at sub-20 vehicle fleets, includes a fleet management system in partnership with FleetCheck, which integrates FTA best practice guides, access to the member advice centre and a phone/remote audit.

Cartwright added: "Because of all the data in the fleet management software, we can log in and perform the audit remotely and discuss it over the phone, at the fleets own pace.

"It's not Van Excellence lite - fleets will achieve the full accreditation."
