Four low-emission refuse vehicles have joined Mid-Devon District Council’s (MDDC’s) fleet as part of a contract with Specialist Fleet Services (SFS).

SFS was awarded a seven-year contract for the provision and maintenance of more than 210 vehicles following a joint tender process by MDDC and Exeter City Council.

The first tranche of vehicles includes four Euro 6 26T Dennis Elite narrow refuse collection vehicles.

Following a successful trial, MDDC also selected a Kramer KT 407 Telehandler from plant equipment specialists Masons Kings.

The contract for MDDC began on June 3, 2019, and over the course of the contract SFS will be providing a range of vehicles including refuse collection vehicles, recycling vehicles, sweepers, hook loaders, tippers, vans, cars and grounds maintenance equipment.

The council will also be trialling electric vans and cars to supersede vehicles due to be replaced in the future.

Bob Sweetland, managing director at SFS, said: “These are the first in a wide range of new, latest technology vehicles, being introduced into Mid-Devon to deliver an enhanced waste and recycling collection, and grounds maintenance service.”
