Verizon Connect has introduced Immobilisation for Verizon Connect Reveal, a tool developed for customers who want to help prevent unauthorised use of vehicles and aid in the recovery of stolen vehicles.

The new platform works alongside the Verizon Connect Reveal system, and can enable fleet managers to disable a vehicle’s ignition once the engine has been turned off.

This protects fleet operators from theft and vehicle misuse.

Derek Bryan, EMEA vice president, at Verizon connect, said: “With Immobilisation for Verizon Connect Reveal we are helping give customers a level of safety and security they’ve never had before.

“They have peace of mind knowing they have the power to take action quickly and safely, with the push of a button.”

The Reveal Vehicle page allows users to locate and choose which vehicles to immobilise, and is compatible with most CalAmp hardware.

Key features include:

  • Remotely disable a vehicle’s ignition directly from the Reveal web portal or mobile app
  • Check when the request to immobilise a vehicle has been sent, if it’s pending and when it’s complete
  • View history of when and where a vehicle was immobilised or mobilised

Immobilisation should offer another level of protection to fleet operators and the array of existing fleet management safety options that are already on offer.

The software, at this moment in time, can be used on most vehicles except for electric or hybrid vehicles and assets, such as generators.

A relay is attached to the starter and Vehicle Tracking Unit (VTU), and the VTU controls whether the starter can power or not.

Last year, Verizon Connect was recognised as the “leading provider of fleet management solutions globally and in the Americas”, according to Berg Insight, but it has now added Immobilisation for Verizon Connect Reveal to its current fleet management options.
