TOM Vehicle Rental founder Jim Rafferty has been named on a shortlist of four contenders to become Scotland's entrepreneur of the year.

The event, staged by Entrepreneurial Scotland in association with professional services firm Deloitte, takes place in Glasgow on Wednesday, November 30.

Previous winners of the award include Sir Tom Hunter of Sports Division, Simon Howie of the Simon Howie Group, and Jim McColl OBE of Clyde Blowers.

Rafferty developed TOM Vehicle Rental out of an MOT station which he founded in 1991 and has overseen a programme of expansion supported by acquisitions.

With operations stretching from Aberdeen to London, the business operates a fleet of more than 12,000 commercial vehicles and generates annual revenues of around £200 million. The company underlined its growth ambitions earlier this month by opening a depot in Birmingham.
