Tevva Motors has opened the order books for its electric range-extender powertrain as a retrofit package to any make and model of 7.5-tonne truck.

The package involves the replacement of a vehicle’s existing engine and gearbox with Tevva’s electric range extender powertrain.

This consists of a single 120kW electric motor, capable of producing 1,325lb ft of torque, 66kWh batteries mounted on the chassis, a range-extender unit, which uses a small-capacity diesel engine to generate additional charge while on the move, and Tevva’s patented Predictive Range Extender Management System (PREMS).

It reduces emissions and running costs, while volume capacity is unaffected, thanks to the packaging of the new powertrain.

The retrofit package is already in daily use with major logistics operator UPS, fitted to a Mercedes-Benz Vario delivery vehicle. The vehicle has been in daily operation in London since November 2015.

Asher Bennett, CEO and founder of Tevva Motors, said: “The package enables older vehicles to meet the most stringent emission requirements, providing a second life and re-using vehicles which are still fit for purpose.”
