WheelRight is launching a tyre-monitoring system that it says will help fleets save money.

With no need for sensors to be fitted to the vehicle, the product enables critical tyre characteristics to be sent to a mobile phone, without the driver having to leave the vehicle.

A 10% under-inflation of a tyre will result in a 2% increase in the use of fuel and will decrease the life of a tyre by between eight and 15%, says WheelRight.

The unit is a sensory pad that is embedded into the road, at a point where vehicles enter or leave a facility. As a vehicle drives over it, ‘in-motion’ monitoring of tyre pressures and temperatures, as well as vehicle weight and axle load, can be analysed and delivered directly to the driver.

As it is driven over, the product removes the need to complete manual checks, with the associated risks of valve damage and operator safety. For commercial users a report / work instruction is emailed directly to the depot.
