Robinsons of Worcester are looking to improve driver behaviour and boost performance after investing in Navman Wireless technology to track 21 of its vehicles.

Robinsons have fitted Navman’s Smart Telematics system into its fleet of HGVs in a bid to improve driver behaviour and reward individuals who are performing at a high level.

The system measures key performance metrics including, aggressive acceleration, harsh braking and engine idling and determines a driver’s efficiency rating which can be used to effectively evaluate performance.

“We are always looking to evolve and improve what we do,” explained Edward Robinson, managing director of Robinsons of Worcester.

“In the current climate it is vital that your fleet is running efficiently. This technology presented us with a mechanism to take strides forward in improving driver behaviour and we felt we could attain strong fuel savings on the back of this.”

“We really liked the OnlineAVL interface, it gave quick and easy access to the information we needed and after only a few weeks of using the system we have already seen a dramatic fall in cases of over revving and speeding.”

Robinson has high expectations for the system stating: “The Smart Telematics solution was really impressive. With this technology we could see how we could implement programmes to help us reduce fuel spend by at least 5%, which we estimate would save us £50,000 a year.”

Equally important to Robinsons is their commitment to promote safe driving practises across their fleet. “We are committed to driver safety and wanted to be able to ensure our vehicles were being driven responsibly in the local community and further afield. This technology gives us the tools to ensure our safe driving policies are being adhered to.”

Robinsons of Worcester are also utilising the MDT-860 two way messaging and job despatch system which acts as a head up training aid, delivering the driver instant feedback on performance.
