Annual MOT testing

Who does it apply to?

HGV users; tests fall due 12 months after first registration. Anyone running a van that is more than three years old.

Who enforces it?

DVSA.

Penalties

It is not legal to run a vehicle that is not covered by a valid MOT unless to the test station. Using a vehicle without a valid MOT can result in a fine of £1,000.

Potential update

Current DfT consultations suggest removing the testing exemptions on electric vehicles, mobile cranes and breakdown vehicles, among others.
